Room capture uses the LiDAR scanner, which Apple only fits to Pro models — iPhone 12 Pro and later. Support for other iPhones is being worked on and you can vote for it on the Community screen inside the app.
Apple only reveals the WiFi network name to apps with location access. Grant it in Settings → WiFi Heatmap → Location. Your position is never stored or sent anywhere; it is purely how iOS gates that one piece of information.
Some office, hotel and guest networks block devices from reaching the router directly. The app falls back to timing against a public address, which still compares rooms accurately, and tells you when it has done so.
Because iOS will not give it to us, or to them. There is no public API for WiFi signal strength on iPhone. Apps displaying a decibel figure are estimating it. We would rather show you four things we genuinely measured.
Settings → Restore purchases inside the app. Purchases are tied to your Apple Account, so they follow you to a new iPhone with no account of ours involved.
